Why IVF due dates are calculated differently
For a pregnancy conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF), the exact date of fertilization is known, so due dates are calculated from the embryo transfer date rather than estimated from the last menstrual period.
How this calculator works
Enter your transfer date and whether the embryo transferred was a day 3 (cleavage stage) or day 5 (blastocyst) embryo. Because egg retrieval corresponds to a gestational age of about two weeks, a day 3 embryo is already 2 weeks and 3 days gestational age at transfer, and a day 5 embryo is 2 weeks and 5 days. Adding the remaining days to reach a standard 280-day pregnancy gives an estimated due date of transfer date plus 263 days for a day 3 transfer, or plus 261 days for a day 5 transfer.
This is the standard method used by most fertility clinics to project an expected delivery date. This calculator is for general educational and planning purposes only, and your clinic’s own estimate based on your specific cycle should be considered the primary reference.
