❤️ Heart Rate Recovery Calculator
Compare your peak exercise heart rate to your heart rate one minute later to see how quickly your heart rate recovers, a simple general fitness indicator.
What is heart rate recovery?
Heart rate recovery (HRR) is the number of beats per minute your heart rate drops in the first minute after you stop exercising. It’s a simple, widely tracked general fitness marker: a faster drop typically reflects better cardiovascular conditioning and autonomic nervous system function, while a slower drop can reflect lower fitness or fatigue.
How this calculator works
The formula is simply HRR = Peak Exercise Heart Rate − Heart Rate One Minute After Stopping. Many fitness trackers and coaches use a rough benchmark where a drop of roughly 12 or more beats per minute at the one-minute mark is considered a typical, healthy recovery response for most adults, though well-conditioned athletes often see considerably larger drops.
Heart rate recovery is influenced by fitness level, how hard the preceding effort was, hydration, temperature, and how recovery was measured (standing, sitting, or continuing to walk).
