eFG Calculator

Enter field goals made, three-pointers made, and field goal attempts to calculate effective field goal percentage.

What this calculator does

Effective field goal percentage (eFG%) adjusts standard shooting percentage in basketball to account for the fact that three-pointers are worth more than two-point shots. It gives a more accurate picture of shooting efficiency than plain field goal percentage.

How the calculation works

The formula is eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 x 3PM) / FGA, where FGM is total field goals made (including threes), 3PM is three-pointers made, and FGA is total field goal attempts. The 0.5 weighting reflects that a made three-pointer is worth 50% more than a made two-pointer.

League-average eFG% in modern basketball is typically in the low-to-mid 50s (as a percentage), with elite shooters and efficient offenses posting figures in the high 50s or above. This calculator is for general statistics reference and educational use.
