How much a drip really wastes
A single drop from a faucet looks tiny, but a steady drip adds up fast because it never stops. This calculator uses a standard estimate of about 0.05 mL per drop (roughly 20 drops per milliliter) and multiplies it by how many drips happen every minute, all day, every day of the year.
The formula
Liters wasted per day = drips per minute × 1,440 minutes/day × 0.00005 liters per drip. That daily figure is then scaled up to a yearly total, converted to gallons, and multiplied by your local water rate to estimate the yearly cost.
Actual drop size varies with faucet design and water pressure, so treat this as a general estimate for planning purposes. A dripping faucet is usually caused by a worn washer or O-ring and is typically an inexpensive fix.
