What the Drag Equation Calculates
The drag equation gives the force resisting an object’s motion through a fluid, such as a car or cyclist moving through air. It’s widely used in automotive, aerospace, and sports engineering.
The Formula
Fd = ½ ρ v² Cd A, where ρ is fluid density, v is relative velocity, Cd is the dimensionless drag coefficient of the shape, and A is the frontal cross-sectional area facing the flow.
