How weight percentile is estimated

This calculator compares your body weight to average adult weight statistics for your sex, based on published U.S. national health survey data, and estimates where you fall using a standard statistical approximation of the population distribution.

An important limitation

Unlike height, body weight in a population is not perfectly symmetrical — it tends to be skewed toward higher values. That means this normal-distribution estimate is a reasonable approximation but is less precise at the extreme high and low ends of the scale than in the middle.

Note: This tool compares raw body weight only; it does not account for height, muscle mass, or body composition, so it is not a measure of health. It is intended for general interest and educational purposes — for a more complete picture, a body mass index (BMI) calculator or a conversation with a healthcare provider is more useful.
