What volume percent concentration is
Volume percent (v/v%) expresses the concentration of a liquid solute dissolved in a liquid solution as a percentage of the total solution volume. It is the standard way alcohol content is reported in beverages (ABV) and is widely used for other liquid-in-liquid mixtures.
The formula
Volume percent is calculated as v/v% = (volume of solute ÷ total volume of solution) × 100. For example, 25 mL of ethanol brought up to a total of 100 mL with water gives a 25% v/v solution.
Note: Because liquid volumes are not always perfectly additive when mixed (due to intermolecular effects), the true solvent volume added may differ slightly from solution volume minus solute volume; this calculator reports an approximate solvent volume for reference.
