What this calculator does

The Vegetable Yield Calculator estimates your total expected harvest weight for a home garden crop, based on typical average per-plant yield figures reported by university extension gardening guides.

How the formula works

The calculation is straightforward: total yield = number of plants × average yield per plant, using commonly cited average yields per healthy, mature plant under typical home-garden conditions over a full growing season.

  • Indeterminate tomato plants can average around 8-15 lb of fruit per plant in a good season
  • Root crops like carrots yield much less per plant but are typically grown at much higher density

A note on accuracy

Actual yields vary widely with variety, soil fertility, watering, pest pressure, climate, and growing season length — treat this as a rough planning estimate for how much to plant, not a guaranteed harvest prediction.
