Steel Weight Calculator
Calculate the weight of a steel bar, plate, or pipe based on its shape and dimensions.
What this calculator does
The steel weight calculator estimates how much a steel round bar, square bar, flat bar/plate, or pipe weighs, based on its shape and dimensions.
The formula
The calculator computes the volume for the shape you choose — circular cross-section for round bar and pipe, rectangular cross-section for square and flat bar — and multiplies by the standard density of steel, 0.2836 lb per cubic inch (about 7,850 kg per cubic meter). For pipe, the wall thickness is subtracted from the outer radius to find the hollow center before computing volume.
This is a general estimate for planning, fabrication, and shipping purposes. Actual steel alloys can vary slightly in density from this reference value.
