What this calculator does
A spherical capacitor consists of two concentric conducting spherical shells separated by an insulating (dielectric) gap. This calculator finds the capacitance produced by that geometry.
The formula
Capacitance is calculated as C = 4πε0 εr (ab) / (b − a), where a is the inner sphere’s radius, b is the outer sphere’s radius, ε0 is the permittivity of free space (8.854×10⁻¹² F/m), and εr is the relative permittivity (dielectric constant) of the material filling the gap.
The outer radius must be larger than the inner radius for the geometry to make physical sense. This calculator is for general physics education and design-estimation purposes.
