What this calculator does

The projectile motion calculator predicts the path of an object launched into the air at an angle, giving the time it stays airborne, how far it travels horizontally (range), and the maximum height it reaches.

The formula

The launch speed is split into horizontal and vertical components using vₓ = v₀cos(θ) and vᶟ = v₀sin(θ). Gravity slows the vertical component over time, so the time of flight, range, and peak height all follow from the standard kinematic equations for constant acceleration, accounting for any starting height above the ground.

This model assumes no air resistance and a flat landing surface at ground level below the launch point, so real-world results (like a thrown ball in wind) will vary somewhat from the ideal calculation.
