π§ Pounds per Square Inch Calculator
Enter an applied force and the surface area it acts on to calculate pressure in pounds per square inch (PSI), with common unit conversions.
What is PSI?
Pounds per square inch (PSI) is a common imperial unit of pressure, describing how much force is distributed over a given surface area. It’s used everywhere from tire inflation to hydraulic systems to weather reporting.
The formula
Pressure is simply Force ÷ Area: PSI = Force (lbf) ÷ Area (in2). The calculator also converts the result to kilopascals, bar, and atmospheres using standard conversion factors (1 PSI = 6.89476 kPa = 0.0689476 bar = 0.068046 atm).
This calculates average pressure over the specified area; actual local pressure can vary across a surface if the force isn’t applied uniformly. This tool is for general reference and educational purposes.
