Point-Slope Form Calculator

Enter a slope and one point on a line to write its equation in point-slope form and convert it to slope-intercept form.

What is point-slope form?

Point-slope form writes the equation of a line as y − y1 = m(x − x1), using a known slope m and a single known point (x1, y1) on the line. It’s especially handy when you know a slope and one point but haven’t found the y-intercept yet.

How this calculator works

Given the slope and the point, this calculator converts the point-slope equation into the more familiar slope-intercept form, y = mx + b, by solving for b: b = y1 − m·x1. It also shows the y-value the line passes through one unit to the right of your given point, as a quick sanity check on the slope.

Because every input here is a plain number (no division involved), the calculator works for any slope value, including zero (a horizontal line).
