What This Calculator Does
This tool calculates the linear momentum of an object — a measure of how much motion it carries, combining how heavy it is with how fast it moves.
The Formula
Momentum uses the classic mechanics equation p = m × v, where p is momentum in kilogram-meters per second (kg·m/s), m is mass in kilograms, and v is velocity in meters per second. As a bonus, the calculator also shows the object’s kinetic energy using KE = ½mv².
Why It Matters
Momentum is a foundational concept in physics used to analyze collisions, vehicle safety, sports impacts, and rocket propulsion. A heavier object or a faster one always carries more momentum, and momentum is conserved in any closed system.
