Minimum and Maximum Calculator

Enter your data set to instantly find the minimum, maximum, and range — the spread between the smallest and largest values.

Why minimum, maximum, and range matter

The minimum and maximum are the smallest and largest values in a data set, and the range — the difference between them — is one of the simplest measures of how spread out your data is. These three numbers are usually the first thing checked before deeper statistical analysis.

How this calculator works

Enter your data values (leave the extra slots at zero or clear them if you have fewer than eight values). The calculator scans every entered value, reports the largest as the maximum and the smallest as the minimum, and subtracts one from the other to get the range.

Because the range only uses two data points, it can be heavily affected by a single unusually high or low outlier. For a fuller picture of spread, pair this with a variance or standard deviation calculation. Provided for general educational purposes.
