Hammock Hang Calculator
Enter your hammock’s length to find the ideal distance between trees and suspension height for the classic comfortable hang.
How Hammock Hang Distance Is Calculated
The widely recommended “20-degree to 30-degree rule” for hammock camping says the suspension straps should hang at roughly a 30-degree angle from horizontal, which creates the classic comfortable curved sit without being too tight or too saggy.
This calculator estimates the ideal distance between anchor points using your hammock’s length and desired hang angle, then estimates a suspension height that accounts for the sag you want in the middle of the hammock body.
These are general starting-point estimates for camping and backyard setup — always test your actual hang for comfort and safety, and follow your hammock and strap manufacturer’s weight and setup guidelines.
