What this calculator does
This tool estimates the weight of grout needed to fill the joints between tiles across a given floor or wall area, based on tile size, joint width, and joint depth (tile thickness).
The formula
The standard grout coverage formula is: pounds per square foot = ((tile length + tile width) ÷ (tile length × tile width)) × joint width × joint depth × a density constant (about 120 for sanded grout), applied across the whole area.
Grout consumption varies by brand, sanded vs. unsanded formulation, and installer technique. Always buy slightly more than calculated and check the manufacturer’s coverage chart for your exact product.
