How glove sizing works

Glove sizes are traditionally based directly on hand circumference measured in inches around the widest part of the hand (across the knuckles, not including the thumb), a measurement historically called a ‘hand’ in glove-making.

The formula

US and UK glove sizes are numerically equal to your hand circumference in inches, rounded to the nearest half inch — so an 8-inch hand circumference is roughly a size 8 glove. This calculator also maps that measurement to common letter sizes (S, M, L, XL) and an approximate EU numeric size.

Sizing can vary between brands and glove styles (dress gloves, work gloves, winter gloves often fit differently), so always check a specific manufacturer’s size chart when possible. This tool gives a general estimate only.
