What is the Debt-to-Capital Ratio?

The debt-to-capital ratio measures the proportion of a company’s total capital structure that is financed by debt, versus equity. It helps assess financial leverage and risk.

The Formula

Debt-to-Capital Ratio = Total Debt ÷ (Total Debt + Total Shareholders’ Equity), expressed as a percentage. A higher ratio indicates heavier reliance on debt financing relative to equity.
