How overtime pay is calculated
Overtime pay compensates employees at a higher rate for hours worked beyond their standard schedule, commonly at 1.5 times (time-and-a-half) the regular hourly rate.
The formula
Overtime Pay = Hourly Rate × Overtime Multiplier × Overtime Hours. Adding this to regular pay (Hourly Rate × Regular Hours) gives total pay for the period.
