What this calculator does
Loading a shipping container efficiently means respecting two limits at once: the container’s internal volume and its maximum payload weight. This calculator estimates how many boxes of a given size and weight will fit, using whichever limit is reached first.
The formula
Each box’s volume is calculated from its length, width, and height. Dividing the container’s usable volume (its total internal volume multiplied by a realistic packing efficiency, since real pallets and boxes never fill 100 percent of the space due to gaps and irregular stacking) by the box volume gives the volume-limited box count. Separately, dividing the container’s maximum payload weight by the box weight gives the weight-limited box count. The smaller of the two numbers is the realistic estimate, and whichever one is smaller is reported as the limiting factor.
This is a planning estimate based on standard container specifications. Actual capacity depends on box stackability, pallet configuration, and container condition, so confirm final load plans with your freight forwarder.
