Why blood sugar has two units
Blood glucose is measured in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) in the United States and a few other countries, and in millimoles per liter (mmol/L) almost everywhere else. The two units describe the same underlying concentration, just scaled differently, so converting between them is a simple multiplication.
The conversion formula
The standard conversion factor for glucose is 18.0182: to go from mmol/L to mg/dL, multiply by 18.0182; to go from mg/dL to mmol/L, divide by 18.0182. This calculator applies that factor in whichever direction you choose and also shows a general fasting-range reference category.
