What is Basal Energy Expenditure (BEE)?

Basal Energy Expenditure is an estimate of how many calories your body needs each day just to keep basic functions running – breathing, circulation, cell repair – while completely at rest. It does not include any calories burned through movement or exercise.

How this calculator works

This tool uses the revised Harris-Benedict equation, one of the most widely referenced formulas for estimating basal metabolic rate from sex, age, height, and weight. Selecting an activity level then multiplies your BEE by a standard activity factor to give a rough estimate of your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), the number of calories you burn in a typical day including activity.

These are population-based estimates and can vary from your true metabolic rate due to individual differences in body composition, genetics, and health conditions. This calculator is for general planning and educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice.
