How the calculation works
The bean bag is approximated as a sphere, and its full volume is calculated using the standard sphere volume formula. Because loose fill doesn’t pack as tightly as a solid shape and bean bags are typically filled to around 70-80% capacity for comfort, the calculator applies a 75% fill factor to the full shell volume before dividing by the size of the filling bags you’re buying, rounding up to a whole number of bags.
This tool gives a general estimate for shopping and planning purposes. Actual fill needs vary by bean bag shape, fabric stretch, and desired firmness, so buying one extra bag is a common safety margin.
