⚖️ Adjusted Body Weight Calculator
Estimate your ideal body weight and adjusted body weight, a measurement often used to guide dosing and nutrition calculations for people above their ideal weight range.
What adjusted body weight is
Adjusted body weight (AdjBW) is an estimate used when someone’s actual weight is well above their ideal body weight. Using actual weight alone can overestimate certain calculations (like nutrition or fluid needs), while using ideal weight alone can underestimate them, so adjusted body weight offers a middle-ground estimate.
How this calculator works
The calculator first estimates ideal body weight (IBW) using the widely used Devine formula: for men, 50 kg plus 2.3 kg for every inch over 5 feet of height; for women, 45.5 kg plus 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. If your actual weight is greater than your ideal weight, adjusted body weight is calculated as IBW plus 40% of the difference between actual weight and IBW. If your actual weight is at or below your ideal weight, your ideal weight is used as-is.
