What is a cubic meter?

A cubic meter is the standard metric unit of volume, representing a cube one meter on each side. It’s widely used to measure shipping volume, room capacity, concrete quantities, water usage, and storage container sizes.

How this calculator works

Enter the length, width, and height of the space or object, choosing the unit you measured in (meters, centimeters, or feet). The calculator converts each dimension to meters, then multiplies them together to get the volume in cubic meters. It also converts the result to liters and cubic feet.

  • Formula: Volume = Length × Width × Height
  • 1 cubic meter = 1,000 liters
  • 1 cubic meter ≈ 35.31 cubic feet

This calculator assumes a rectangular (box-shaped) volume. For irregular shapes, split the object into rectangular sections and add the volumes together.
