Baby Eye Color Calculator

Get a fun, simplified probability estimate of your baby’s eye color based on both parents’ eye colors and simplified genetic inheritance patterns.

How baby eye color is estimated

Eye color is influenced by multiple genes, but a simplified model based mainly on the OCA2 and HERC2 genes is commonly used for a fun, approximate prediction of a baby’s likely eye color based on both parents’ eye colors.

How this calculator works

The calculator uses commonly cited approximate probability tables for each combination of parental eye colors (brown, green, and blue) built from simplified dominant/recessive inheritance patterns, and reports the percentage chance of each outcome along with the single most likely color.

  • Real eye color genetics involve several genes and more shades (hazel, amber, gray) than this simplified three-category model covers.
  • Grandparents’ eye colors and other genetic factors can also influence the outcome in ways this tool does not capture.

This tool is intended for fun and general educational purposes only and is not a genetic diagnostic or medical tool.
