What this calculator does
This calculator estimates the real cost of a 3D print job, combining material cost, electricity, and an optional markup so hobbyists and small print shops can price jobs sensibly.
The formula
Filament cost is the weight of filament used (in grams, converted to kilograms) multiplied by your price per kilogram. Electricity cost is the printer’s power draw in kilowatts multiplied by the print duration in hours, multiplied by your local electricity rate, giving energy used in kilowatt-hours. These two costs are added together for a base cost, and then a markup percentage is applied on top to arrive at a suggested sale price.
This estimate does not include fixed costs like printer depreciation, failed prints, post-processing labor, or shipping. Add those separately for a full business pricing model.
