Aircraft Wing Loading
Wing loading measures how much weight each unit of wing area must support: WL = Weight ÷ Wing Area. It’s a key indicator of an aircraft’s flight characteristics — a lower wing loading generally means a lower stall speed, tighter turning radius, and shorter takeoff distance, while a higher wing loading typically allows faster cruise speeds and a smoother ride in turbulence.
Light general aviation aircraft often have wing loadings around 50–100 kg/m², while jet airliners can exceed 500 kg/m². This calculator is intended for general aviation reference and educational purposes.
