What wavelength is
Wavelength is the distance between two consecutive corresponding points on a wave, such as crest to crest. It relates to wave speed and frequency through the universal wave equation: λ = v / f, where v is wave speed and f is frequency.
How this calculator works
Enter the speed of the wave (for example, 343 m/s for sound in air or 299,792,458 m/s for light in a vacuum) and its frequency in hertz. The calculator divides speed by frequency to give the wavelength in meters.
This equation applies to all wave types, including sound, light, and water waves, as long as the wave speed used matches the medium the wave is actually traveling through. For general educational purposes.
