🍚 Uncooked to Cooked Rice Calculator
Estimate how much cooked rice you’ll end up with from a given amount of uncooked rice, based on the type of rice you’re using.
How much does rice grow when cooked?
Rice absorbs water as it cooks and expands significantly in volume. How much it expands depends on the type of rice: white rice roughly triples, brown rice roughly quadruples due to its longer cooking time and higher water absorption, and short-grain sushi rice expands a bit less than long-grain varieties.
How this calculator works
Enter how many cups of uncooked rice you’re starting with and select the rice type. The calculator multiplies your uncooked amount by a typical yield ratio for that rice type (for example, 1 cup of uncooked white rice yields about 3 cups cooked) to estimate your finished cooked volume and approximate number of half-cup servings.
Note: Actual yield can vary slightly with cooking method, water ratio, and rice freshness, so use this as a helpful planning estimate rather than an exact figure.
