What this calculator does

This tool calculates the power delivered by a balanced three-phase electrical system, a common configuration for industrial motors, HVAC equipment, and larger electrical services.

The formulas

Apparent power is S = √3 Ɨ V_line Ɨ I_line (in volt-amps). Real (usable) power is P = S Ɨ PF, where PF is the power factor of the load. Reactive power follows from the power triangle: Q = √(S² āˆ’ P²).

These formulas assume a balanced three-phase load (equal current and voltage on all three phases). This calculator is intended for general electrical planning and education, not as a substitute for a qualified electrician’s load calculations.
