Why bigger pizzas are usually better value
Pizza area grows with the square of its diameter, so a pizza that looks only a bit bigger can actually contain much more food. For example, a 16 inch pizza has about 78% more area than a 12 inch pizza, even though the diameter only increased by a third.
How this calculator compares value
This tool calculates the area of each pizza using the circle area formula, then divides each price by its area to find the cost per square inch. The pizza with the lower cost per square inch is the better value for your money.
- Pizza area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
- Cost per square inch = price ÷ area
- Lower cost per square inch = better value
This comparison is based purely on area and price; it doesn’t account for crust style, toppings, or personal taste, which are worth factoring in alongside the math.
