Why calculate a rent increase

Landlords often raise rent by a percentage or a flat dollar amount at lease renewal. This calculator translates either type of increase into your new monthly rent and shows how much extra you’ll pay over a full year.

How it works

Choose whether the increase was given as a percentage of your current rent or as a flat dollar amount. The calculator adds that increase to your current rent to get your new monthly payment, and multiplies the monthly difference by 12 to show the yearly impact.

Some cities and states cap how much rent can be raised each year (rent control or rent stabilization rules). This tool does not check those limits, so verify your local regulations if you believe an increase may exceed what’s legally allowed.
