What this calculator compares

This calculator estimates and compares the total annual workforce cost of running a team on-location (in a physical office) versus running the same size team remotely, so you can see the rough financial difference between the two setups.

How the estimate is calculated

For each setup, the calculator multiplies the number of workers by their fully-loaded annual cost. On-location cost per worker is average salary plus a per-worker share of office overhead (rent, utilities, supplies). Remote cost per worker is average salary plus a smaller per-worker stipend (equipment, internet, software). Total On-Location Cost minus Total Remote Cost gives the estimated savings from going remote (a negative number means on-location is actually cheaper).

Real organizations have many other cost factors — travel, coworking stipends, regional salary differences, productivity effects, and taxes — that this simplified model does not capture.
