📈 Race Time Improvement Calculator
Set a realistic goal time by calculating what a target percentage improvement over your current race result would look like.
What this calculator does
It turns a target percentage improvement into a concrete goal finish time and pace, so you have a specific number to train toward for your next race over the same distance.
The formula
The math is straightforward: Goal Time = Current Time × (1 − Improvement % ÷ 100). For example, improving a 50-minute 10K by 5% means finding 5% of 50 minutes (2.5 minutes) and subtracting it, giving a goal time of 47.5 minutes. The calculator also converts that goal time into a required pace per kilometer, since pace is usually easier to track during the race itself.
How much improvement is realistic depends heavily on your training history and experience level — a beginner runner can often see improvements of 5-15% within a training cycle, while an experienced competitive runner may target much smaller, harder-won gains of 1-3%.
