What prime factorization is
Prime factorization breaks a whole number down into the prime numbers that multiply together to make it. Every whole number greater than 1 has exactly one prime factorization, a fact known as the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic.
How this calculator works
The calculator divides your number repeatedly by the smallest possible prime (starting at 2), counting how many times each prime divides evenly, then moves on to the next candidate prime, continuing until what’s left is 1 or itself prime. The result is shown as a product of primes raised to their exponents, for example 360 = 2^3 x 3^2 x 5.
