The Horse Weight Calculator estimates a horse’s body weight using two simple tape measurements: heart girth (the circumference of the body just behind the front legs) and body length (from the point of the shoulder to the point of the buttock).
The formula it uses
This calculator uses the widely published heart girth formula for adult horses: Weight (lb) = (Heart Girth² × Body Length) / 330, with both measurements in inches. This formula is commonly used by university agricultural extension programs as a practical alternative to a livestock scale.
If you enter measurements in centimeters, the calculator converts them to inches internally before applying the formula, then reports weight in both pounds and kilograms.
A note on accuracy
Tape-measurement formulas are estimates and tend to be less accurate for young foals, ponies, or unusually built horses, which use different divisors. For an exact weight, a livestock scale is more reliable; use this calculator for general planning purposes, such as estimating a feed or medication range to discuss with a veterinarian.
