⚙️ Nm to Joules Calculator

Convert newton-meters (N·m) to joules (J). Since a newton-meter of work or energy is dimensionally identical to a joule, the numbers match exactly.

N·m

What This Calculator Does

This tool converts newton-meters (N·m) to joules (J) when representing work or energy. Torque is also measured in newton-meters, but torque is a different physical quantity from energy even though it shares the same unit symbol.

The Formula

One joule is defined as the energy transferred when a force of one newton acts over a distance of one meter: 1 J = 1 N·m. So when N·m represents work or energy (not torque), the conversion is a direct 1:1 match: Joules = Newton-meters × 1.

Important Caveat

Torque and energy are physically different concepts even though both use N·m as a unit — torque is a rotational force, while energy/work is a scalar quantity. This calculator assumes the N·m value represents work or energy, not torque. This tool is intended for general educational and planning purposes.
