What net force means
Net force is the overall (resultant) force acting on an object once all individual forces are combined, taking direction into account. When two forces act along the same line in opposite directions, the net force is simply the larger force minus the smaller one.
How this calculator works
Enter two opposing forces acting on an object and its mass. The calculator subtracts the second force from the first to get the net force, then applies Newton’s second law (F = ma, rearranged as a = F / m) to find the resulting acceleration.
A positive net force means the object accelerates in the direction of Force 1; a negative value means it accelerates in the direction of Force 2. This simplified model assumes both forces act along the same straight line.
