What This Calculator Does

When two streams of air at different temperatures and flow rates mix together (such as outdoor air blending with return air in an HVAC system), the resulting mixed air settles at a temperature that is a flow-weighted average of the two inputs.

The Formula

The calculator uses the standard mixed air equation: T_mix = (V1 × T1 + V2 × T2) / (V1 + V2), where V1 and V2 are the volumetric flow rates and T1 and T2 are the corresponding temperatures. This assumes the two streams have similar density and specific heat, which is a reasonable approximation for air at typical HVAC conditions.
