What is MPG?
Miles per gallon (MPG) measures how far a vehicle travels on one gallon of fuel. It’s the standard way to compare fuel efficiency between vehicles and to track how driving habits or maintenance affect your fuel costs.
How this calculator works
MPG = Miles Driven ÷ Gallons Used. From there, this calculator also works out your cost per mile (Price per Gallon ÷ MPG), your total fuel cost for the trip, and the equivalent fuel consumption in liters per 100 kilometers (a common metric outside the US), using the conversion L/100km = 235.215 ÷ MPG.
For the most accurate reading, measure from a full tank to a full tank and record the odometer miles in between, since partial fill-ups can introduce error.
