What Does a Titration Calculator Do?

Titration is a laboratory technique used to determine the unknown concentration of a solution (the analyte) by carefully reacting it with a solution of known concentration (the titrant) until the reaction reaches its equivalence point. This calculator uses your titration data to back-calculate the analyte’s molarity.

The Formula

The calculation is based on: moles of titrant = titrant molarity × titrant volume (L), then moles of analyte = moles of titrant × mole ratio, and finally analyte molarity = moles of analyte ÷ analyte volume (L). The mole ratio comes from the balanced chemical equation for the reaction (for example, 1:1 for a simple monoprotic acid-base reaction, or 1:2 for a diprotic acid).
