Why magnesium matters

Magnesium supports hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body, including muscle and nerve function, blood sugar control, blood pressure regulation, and building strong bones. Many adults consume less magnesium than the recommended amount.

How this calculator works

The calculator looks up the standard Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for magnesium based on your age, sex, and life stage, using published dietary reference values. Adult men generally need slightly more (around 400-420 mg/day) than adult women (around 310-320 mg/day), with modest increases recommended during pregnancy.

If you enter your typical daily magnesium intake from food and supplements, the calculator compares it to your target so you can see whether your diet is meeting recommended levels.

This tool is for general educational and dietary planning purposes only. People with kidney problems should consult a healthcare professional before significantly increasing magnesium intake, especially from supplements.
