What this calculator does
Density measures how much mass is packed into a given volume. This calculator divides the mass you enter by the volume you enter to give the density of an object, liquid, or material.
The formula
Density is calculated with the standard formula ρ = m / V, where ρ (rho) is density, m is mass, and V is volume. The result is shown in kilograms per cubic meter, grams per cubic centimeter, and kilograms per liter, since grams per cubic centimeter and kilograms per liter are numerically identical and commonly used for everyday materials and liquids.
For accurate results, make sure mass and volume are measured for the exact same sample, and that trapped air or gaps in a solid object are not counted as part of its volume.
