How heptathlon scoring works

The heptathlon combines seven track and field events into a single score using official World Athletics (formerly IAAF) scoring tables. Each event result is converted into points using a standardized formula, and the seven event scores are added together for a total.

The scoring formulas

Each event uses its own formula of the form points = A x (performance – B)^C, with running events using time subtracted from a constant (since a lower time is better) and jumping/throwing events using the raw distance. This calculator applies the official World Athletics point-scoring constants for each of the seven heptathlon events: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m.

Results are rounded down to the nearest whole point, matching the standard convention used in official competition scoring.
