The World Health Organization publishes two reference recipes for local hand sanitizer production: an ethanol-based formula (8,333 mL of 96% ethanol, 417 mL of 3% hydrogen peroxide, and 145 mL of 98% glycerol, topped up with sterile or distilled water to a 10-liter batch) and an isopropyl alcohol-based formula (7,515 mL of 99.8% isopropyl alcohol in the same 10-liter proportions).
How the scaling works
This calculator scales those exact ratios to whatever batch size you enter, so the final alcohol concentration stays consistent with the WHO reference formula (which targets roughly 75-80% final alcohol content, an effective concentration for antimicrobial activity).
