What this calculator does
The glass weight calculator estimates how much a pane or panel of flat glass weighs, based on its width, height, thickness, and quantity.
The formula
Standard annealed glass has a density of about 156 lb per cubic foot, which works out to roughly 13 lb per square foot for every inch of thickness. The calculator finds the pane’s area in square feet, multiplies by weight-per-square-foot for the chosen thickness, and then multiplies by quantity for a total.
This is a general estimate for planning and handling purposes — for example, deciding how many people are needed to safely lift a pane. Tempered, laminated, or insulated glass units can weigh somewhat more than single-pane annealed glass of the same size.
