What this calculator does

This calculator computes the plain arithmetic gap between two average or median earnings figures, expressed both as a percentage gap and as cents earned per dollar, the way pay gap statistics are commonly reported.

How the calculation works

The percentage gap is (higher earnings − lower earnings) ÷ higher earnings × 100, matching the standard method used in most published pay gap statistics. The cents-on-the-dollar figure is the lower earnings divided by the higher earnings, times 100.

This tool performs only the raw math on the two numbers you provide; it does not adjust for hours worked, occupation, experience, or other factors, and real published pay gap statistics vary by methodology and data source. It is provided for general educational and planning purposes only.
