What frequency measures

Frequency is the number of complete cycles of a repeating event, such as a wave or oscillation, that occur per second, measured in hertz (Hz).

The formulas used

When calculating from period, this calculator uses f = 1/T, where T is the time for one complete cycle. When calculating from a wave’s properties, it uses f = v/λ, where v is wave speed and λ is wavelength.

Both formulas describe steady, periodic motion or waves traveling through a uniform medium. For general physics education purposes.
